BMW B58 Oil Pump Failure: The Plastic Problem (and the Fix)

Bmw

Why This Pump Is a Ticking Clock

Early BMW B58 engines left the factory with an oil pump that relies on plastic internals. Over time, with heat cycles, those plastics will crack, break apart, and end up restricting the oil supply. When that happens, the pump can no longer regulate pressure or level accurately, and the consequences show up fast.

Symptoms We See at the Shop

  • Oil level measurement errors on the dash

  • High oil pressure warnings

  • A whining noise from the engine at idle or under load

The Fix

The updated Genuine BMW oil pump ships with a metal adjusting ring and all-metal internals. It’s a direct replacement and dramatically more durable. If you have an early B58 with these symptoms, don’t wait too long or overlook it, it can turn catastrophic
